Solipsism, Vibes, and the Danger of “Just Trust Yourself”

Let’s start with a definition:

Solipsism is the philosophical belief that only your own mind is certain to exist — and that everything else is unknowable or irrelevant.

Sounds extreme, right? But it’s exactly what’s subtly promoted in a lot of New Age communities.

There’s a flavor of spirituality right now — especially online — that says:

  • Just follow your bliss
  • Just trust yourself
  • Do what feels good and let the rest fall away

On the surface, that sounds empowering. And it can be.

But when it becomes the only guidance — without structure, reflection, or responsibility — it turns into something dangerous: A spiritual free-for-all where everyone becomes their own guru and no one is accountable to anything but “the vibe.”

What’s wrong with that?

Well, a few things:

  • It removes the need for discernment — because everything is always “just feedback”
  • It dodges accountability — because “your truth” can’t be questioned
  • It avoids real growth — because challenge is seen as “low vibe”
  • It breeds spiritual bypassing — because feeling good becomes the only measure of success

And it’s especially dangerous when you’re seeking community. Because instead of finding actual connection, you’re pushed into a collective performance of “alignment” — where anything that challenges the groupthink is seen as unhealed.

Real spiritual maturity doesn’t mean you discard your community — or your conscience.

It means:

  • You build trust with yourself through discipline, reflection, and feedback — not isolation
  • You learn from others without giving your power away
  • You stay rooted in a lineage or ethical framework so you’re not just inventing meaning as you go
  • You can still take a stand, even when it’s uncomfortable

At Becoming Ceremony, we don’t teach “do what feels good.”

We teach:

  • Discernment over delusion
  • Energy work with ethics
  • Structure that strengthens your soul, not cages it
  • A living breathing lineage connected to the ancient mystery schools

You can absolutely trust yourself. But trust is earned. It’s cultivated. It grows with practice and integrity — not vibes alone.

If you’ve been harmed by New Age “freedom” that turned into spiritual narcissism — you’re not wrong. And you’re not alone.
