What Does It Actually Mean to “Do the Work” Spiritually?

A grounded take for professionals who want more than surface-level growth

A few years ago, I sat across from a new client — polished, successful, running a multi-six-figure business — who said to me,

“I’ve done so much personal development. Therapy. Coaching. Journaling. But I’m still stuck in the same loop.”

She was burnt out. Not because she didn’t know what to do — but because the inner pattern that kept recreating chaos hadn’t actually been addressed.

She’d been doing some kind of work. But not the work that would shift her at the root.

And honestly? I get it.

There’s a lot of language in the personal development space that sounds good but doesn’t go anywhere.

So what does it actually mean to “do the work”?

Let’s say you’re building a house.

You hire contractors, you pick tile, you get the blueprint… but underneath it all, the foundation is cracked.
You can decorate all you want — it might look impressive — but the structure can’t support long-term stability.

That’s how I see spiritual work.
It’s not about adding more routines, rituals, or mindset hacks.
It’s about repairing the energetic foundation that everything else in your life is built on.

But here’s the catch:

Sometimes doing the work is not adding more to your plate.
Sometimes it’s sitting with the energetic shift that occurred after a healing session or activation — instead of rushing to book the next session just because it felt like a soft blanket.

Sometimes it means leaving a job that’s comfortable and making room for more power and peace.
Sometimes it’s ending a relationship you know in your gut you’ve outgrown — even if some of the puzzle pieces “make sense” on paper.

Because the truth is — you can’t heal the mind with the mind.

To create real transformation, we have to work beyond the same system that created the loop.

We need something outside the matrix.
Something greater than ourselves.
We need Spirit — and the tools that help us partner with Spirit in a grounded, consistent way.

The work isn’t a vibe. It’s a practice.

At Becoming Ceremony, this work looks like:

  • Grounded meditation that supports your nervous system
  • Energy tools that increase clarity and reveal next steps
  • Clean, clear mentorship — not performance
  • Spiritual structure that supports your evolution

Because if you’re going to show up fully — in your business, your leadership, your family, your legacy — you need more than coping mechanisms.

You need alignment at the energetic level.

So ask yourself:

  • Do I have spiritual structure that supports my nervous system?
  • Do I know what phase of development I’m in right now?
  • Do I have mentorship I trust — that helps me grow without bypassing my own knowing?

If not — that’s the work.

And you don’t have to figure it out alone.
